The Technology Behind Electric Motorsport: What is Formula E? GEN3 Explained
Formula E is more than just a racing series - it's a battle for the future. Radical cars - all powered by electricity - pave the way for the road cars of tomorrow (ABB, Formula E)
"Why electric?" you might ask….
The world is now embracing electric power under government mandates and the FIA aims to transform not only how we treat our environment but also our society through motorsports—arguably the most influential series of all.
To understand it better, let's start with F1. Are you ready? 🏎️💨
Formula 1 is the epitome of thrill. It’s practically one gigantic group science project… except.. There are a couple of challenges that need to be addressed.
As the world transitions to fuel-free government mandates and seeks to improve social justice, hybrid-powered F1's partnerships with high-profile celebrities amplify the sport's exclusivity, where access and opportunity may be disproportionately limited to those who can afford it or are born into it. This emphasis on exclusivity often prioritizes glamour over fostering genuine interest in aerodynamics or technological advancements. Meanwhile, car companies are making bank 💲
Yet in this game, we’re missing a player who is more relatable, innovative and perhaps kinder to our environment.
That’s where Cleo Abram comes in to tell us a story about how Formula E was brought to life.
It all started in Paris 11 years ago, at a tiny restaurant where three influential men gathered to make history. Alejandro Agag, a former member of the European Parliament, Antonio Tjani, former EU commissioner for Transport and Jean Todt, the president of FIA.
They recognized that the world needed a next-generation motorsport that could also drive the development of commercial EVs whilst helping world’s environmentalist agenda.
Fast forward to today, and we have the latest Formula E car taking electric racing to the next level.
